Joshua Gingerich's profile

Water and Glass, Mixed Media, 2015

Josh Gingerich's Water and Glass collection is comprised of a total of ten alternative process prints, and is a part of an ongoing exploration of the purity of one's inner self, in contrast with the outer self presented to the world. The prints illustrate the inner turmoil, joy, and other emotions that are often buried behind an outer shell of smiling faces and pleasant façades. The models were asked to relax their faces, to allow a fleeting glimpse into the untainted essence of their inner selves.

In each piece, the layers and exposure of the emulsion reflects the personality and character of the person represented in the image; it is intended for the viewer to feel connected to each of these individuals, though they know nothing about their lives or background.
